Acne is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the sebaceous glands characterised by blackheads, whiteheads, macules, papules, pustules and cysts and often leads to scarring. The first chain of events that usually lead to acne, especially acne in the face, are in puberty when the body starts to produce testosterone, which then stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce excess sebum that is then trapped in the hair follicle. Dead cells are attached to this sticky substance and bacteria then forms, therefore the cells cannot exfoliate and a hard mass is then produced within in the skin. Acne is usually genetic and peak acne years are in females 14-17, and in males 16-19. Over 40% of females will have acne during some part for their life and over 35% of males will be affected also. Today’s lifestyle, stress levels and increased intake of medication, adult acne is certainly on the rise.
Each client will have an individual treatment programme worked out by their practitioner for their particular skin acne concerns. Each treatment prescribed will change from session to session as the skin is changing. All treatments will include a home prescription, which must be strictly adhered to, to obtain the best results possible.

Peak acne years are 14-17 in females and 16-19 in males and as many as 40% of females and 35% of males are affected during these peak years. However with today’s lifestyle, stress levels, hormone imbalances and increased intake of medications adult acne is certainly on the rise.
Acne is a chronic disorder. Even when the skin looks clear, it will still have acne impactions and constant tension in its follicles. If you could see inside these weakened follicles, you’d see constant breaking, leaking and healing activity.
Acne is graded from 1 to 4 depending on the severity or be diagnosed either INFLAMED or NON-INFLAMMED. Basically in acne skin the problem is that the skin is not functioning properly.
A contributor to adult facial acne is dead cell build up as it acts as an inhibitor to the skins functioning. This excess build up can block sebaceous glands and hair shafts causing blackheads and congestion leading to inflammation, outbreaks and eruptions.
If the skin is not functioning properly it is easily invaded by bacterial attack, especially if the immune responses are not strong and the acid mantle is impaired.
If the structural integrity is not strong the skin may have trans-epidermal water loss (poor water levels).
The skin needs good water levels to be able to excrete waste properly.

Step 1: Cleanse
Proven effective for more than 25 years, acne wash works as an anti microbial agent that reduces inflammation that is predominant in acne.
Acne wash is a superior cleansing solution that can inhibit and eliminate acne and associated conditions. The solution is gentle enough to use daily, and is an excellent preventative for those skins affected by this damaging condition. Acne wash establishes a control system within the skin to minimise the occurrence of breakouts, as well as reducing the inflammation associated with acne. The ‘miracle’ ingredient is benzyl peroxide; the benzyl pulls the peroxide down into the pores and hair shafts and creates an environment where acne bacteria can’t live.

Step 2: Moisturizer

Pigmentation
The skin is your body’s natural protective barrier, and has several defensive mechanisms, one of which is melanin or pigmentation. Each person’s normal level of melanin is genetically predetermined and differs by ethnic origins. Individuals with higher levels of melanin 9 olive to dark toned skin tend to be more susceptible to hyper spotty pigmentation, but sun damage and internal factors can cause this condition in very fair skins. There are two general types of hyper spotty pigmentation. The first is “passive” which can be caused by hormonal changes, birth control pills or other medications. The second type is “inflammatory” caused when skin experiences some type of trauma such as burns or abrasions. When this happens, the defense mechanisms kick in and melanin rushes to the area of trauma causing dark spots or hyper-pigmentation. In both cases, you need to remove and fade the area of excess melanin without causing further trauma and while lowering the production of new melanin.
